I was recently commissioned by BBC Radio 4 to produce and present a documentary for its experimental "Illuminated" strand that would reignite curiosity in the art of asking questions.

In The Big Ask, I seek to establish whether, in a world of social media and growing egocentricity, we might be asking fewer, good questions. I interview professional questions-askers – a detective, priest, philosopher, therapist an barrister – to understand what truths and secrets the best questions can unlock. Oh, and in response to a challenge from the BBC commissioner, I construct and present the whole 29-minute documentary in the form of questions.

For BBC Radio 4, I produced and presented Inside Pages, a five-part series of episodes where I travel to some of the hidden corners of Britain to view small towns through the lens of the people who don't ignore them - their local reporters.

Some of the towns are struggling, others are thriving. The one thing they have in common is they're pretty much invisible in the eyes of the national media, even though they are home to tens of thousands of people. They don't have football teams. They're not pretty resorts that attract tourists. They can't even claim to be a contested marginal seat that will determine the outcome of a general election. Our guides are the passionate people who remain committed to telling the stories of what's happening in their small towns. Through their newspapers, websites and social media posts they refuse to turn the page on local news reporting - often at some personal cost.

For a network of community radio stations, I produced and presented Catch of the Day, a series of five episodes about what life is really like in our coastal communities and what the future might hold for our fishing industry.
